Logical Fallacies

Logical fallacies are absolutely everywhere in society. People make the broadest of connections and the biggest generalizations to try and "win" an argument, and many times they are able to get away with it. However, there are also many situations that, when careful analyzed, leave the user looking extremely foolish because of the use of logical fallacies. The use of these fallacies aren't always for winning or losing arguments, though. Many times they are just used to get a point across to an audience. In the song, Ill Mind of Hopsin 5, Hopsin aims to pick out a few of the flaws he sees in society. At one point, he criticizes the African American community with the line, " Man, why do black people gotta be the only ones who can't evolve? 'Cause you in the streets actin' like a neanderthal. It's clear you can't stand the law. You're lost as an abandoned dog, And all you're interested in is fightin', rappin' and basketball." This is what is called a sweeping generalization, otherwise known as a stereotype. Hopsin has seen actions in his community and everywhere from African Americans that aren't morally correct, and claims they have no goals. However, these immoral actions occur across all races, and the majority of the African American community do have a broad range of goals, just as the majority of every other race does.
