How to Prevent Procrastination

So this may be the most applicable "how to" you'll ever read as a college student. The word procrastination literally runs our lives, but by the time you read this, because you most likely procrastinated to get this far, you'll have an idea of how to stop putting off your work until the last minute (although you will probably continue to do so).

So the first step is to fully understand what you are trying to get done. Most of the time you're not even sure how much work you actually have; you just make an assumption. This can lead you to think you don't have as much work as you probably do, and the work you know you have, you probably think will take you thirty minutes to an hour less than it truly will. Next, the truly tough part, is setting a time you're going to start working, and sticking to it. There's no real way to make this one happen, you just have to have some will power. Finally, once you're ready to start, get rid of everything you do not need to study or work. Phone has to go. Television can't be on or around. Any distraction has to be taken out of the picture. This literally makes all the difference in the world. The best thing, I found, was to give your phone to your friend or roommate while you work, or someone you trust at least. Finally, will power is the last obstacle to overcome. With technology today, you can literally access any website or app from any device ever it seems like, so you have to stay strong. The amount of free time after you finish will be endless. It's an incredible set of feelings: relaxing, relieving, and accomplishing. Hope you can put it to work. I mean...you made it this far.
